When I first set out to create a collection of fantasy books, I created a custom web site called The Magic Appreciation Tour that was designed to let authors “join” as members and list their books on the site. I created a custom site because, at the time, no decent content management tools existed that were specifically designed to list books. I also wanted to offer promotion tools and other member features that weren’t available on book retail sites.
Now, several years later, I’ve found WordPress themes and plugins that do an adequate job of presenting books. Being able to use WordPress as a base framework has several advantages over my own home-grown stuff, not the least of which is freeing up a lot of my time.
